What Goes Around…..

I’ve just placed a shrieking, happy, interested & capable candidate into one of my favourite clients. She was also the youngest & the most inexperienced that attended interview. She did her homework & took nothing for granted & got the job. And it’s given me a particularly fine buzz.

But I fill jobs all the time. Why this one?

Well, most obviously she had become fed up of the knock backs & was truly finding it harder & harder to get a permanent job. So this offer was greeted with a mixture of utter glee but also relief. No shame in that!

But it’s this that starkly made it clear how choices affect decisions: she was a temp of mine. Said yes to everything no matter how dull it was. Moved appointments if it helped her get the booking. Was never late, never had any issues & just did what she was supposed to do & did it happily. I’ll caveat that by saying all the jobs she went into were nice jobs – but some were a bit quiet & on some, the days dragged.

So when this permanent job cropped up, I’d tried & tested her. I knew she’d show, deliver & try hard, plus (& most importantly) I knew of her attitude & her steady character. She wasn’t a ‘Wildcard’ although her experience was less than the others & probably wouldn’t have got her chosen for interview even & due to her working for me, I was able to enhance her CV to the employer & help give an insight into her.

And I’ve just offered her it & actually said – “this is partly down to your simply easy & happy temp attitude. You never let me down & that’s counted.” And she agreed!

So it just goes to show how valuable Temping can be for your CV, your mind-set & it can genuinely aid your career. Without the temping I’d probably never had selected her for the initial interview as her CV was weaker. It was the ‘extra-curricular’ traits that nailed it.
