What can happen when you circumvent the Recruiter….?

I choose to work with a certain type of candidate & believe me it works the other way. Candidates choose to use me. On speaking to me, reading my website & my blogs, it’s immediately evident I’m very different & don’t use the much over-used high street ‘recruiting’ speak from the outset, but I guess plain talking, no nonsense treatment figures high on why candidates like me & appreciate my efforts. I don’t recruit by ‘numbers’ & the experience is that little bit different.

However, sometimes the odd candidate just decides to think I’m the same as the rest & here’s what can happen.

This weekend 2 candidates did something that is – I’m happy to say – unusual in my small but perfectly formed little business

I approached these 2 potential for some very nice jobs I had on. As I treat candidates like adults & trust is crucial in my role, I was happy to divulge information like who the role was working for & the reasons behind the vacancy etc.

And both decided to ignore my trust & my honesty went & sent their CV’s directly to the client. With no mention of me or how they’d heard of the job.

Two different clients – one in Liverpool & one in Cheshire. Two completely similar instances.

So what happened then? I must’ve been fuming? I really wanted to give them a ‘piece of my mind’…or did I?

Nope. As I didn’t need to.

Both clients suspected they’d been given the information via myself as their vacancies were exclusively with me. So they immediately reverted to the candidates pointing them my way. But the unspoken decision was taken, there & then, that as far as they were concerned, forget about them as potentials. The feeling was if they’d not had the honesty to deal via myself, they weren’t the kind of candidate they wanted adding to their workforce.

Both candidates, in this candidate flooded market, have lost real opportunities.

Admittedly, I have particularly loyal & supportive clients who value my honesty as well as my candidates & I get that some applicants have a dim view of recruiters but don’t tar us all with the same brush. I do a good job of giving FULL information & am happy to impart it. In fact I think it’s crucial. What’s the point of holding back on the Company name, only to find out you went there for 2 weeks 2 years ago & really hated the place & walked out. And that really does happen.

So, as a candidate looking for your perfect job & someone to help you with that – choose your recruiter well. Decide who you want to work with & don’t spoil any chances that come along! Some recruiters really do go that extra mile & work differently to get the very best results they can for as many candidates as possible.

I’m Roseanne Stockton & I successfully run Nu-Recruit – I place permanent & temporary candidates of the very best caliber into great local employers & jobs in Liverpool, Chester & Wirral. In a no-fuss, no nonsense way.

And I love what I do.

  1. Too true, Roseanne. This behaviour is right up there with the person who offers to perform a service for you, on the employers time, with the employers assets and for a fraction of the fee (in cash of coursr).

  2. Hi there! I’m at work browsing your website from my own new iphone 3gs! Just planned to say I love reading your blog and enjoy all your posts! Keep up the superb operate!
