The dreaded Client / Recruiter VISIT!

This quick little blog is aimed at clients.

Employers. Bosses….whatever you choose to call yourselves. And its aimed at your relationship with me: the Recruiter.

I take vacancies from some really nice, responsive clients & I have to say lots of my clients know me, know how I work & I know them. But businesses grow & I attract new clients & new contacts & new jobs to fill in new Firms. And it frankly amazes me when a client would rather me NOT come out to meet them or see their set up & get a feel for the place.

Think about it. How really do you expect me to place a candidate that suits your organizations ethics, agenda & personality (& yes I mean personality as all Firms DO have personalities?) Why keep me at arms’ length when an experienced recruiter (& that’s me!) needs only 30 mins of your time – a walk round the office & an insight into the role & can jigsaw puzzle a pretty good personality fit from that? 30 mins spared at the outset of recruiting reaps rewards further down the line.

Think: who loses eventually if you keep me at arms’ length – well we both do if I don’t fill the job but – more crucially recruiting the best candidates for your Team isn’t really a game is it? You haven’t got the time to waste – as I don’t!

This is a real timeline on a real client that I hope illustrates my point: I took 2 vacancies from one of my Property clients this week. One last Friday & one on Monday. Both jobs I’ve had before. The phone call took 4 mins for the first role to be given over – probably one minute for the second job. I sent 4 CV’s yesterday & last night arranged 3 client interviews. 8, 9 & 10am today. I’ll get offers tomorrow & he gets at least one candidate. This is within his demanding timescales & with no pushing from me.

And partly, its been so smooth because this client, when brand new, admitted me for 35 mins into the ‘hallowed chambers’ of his organization & his roles & now….we’re cooking on gas.

Don’t think all recruiters are there to waste your time & to gain visits for targets. They’re not! I’m certainly not. It’s an investment that pays off very much when you use a ‘High Touch Consultancy’ i.e someone that knows their stuff!
