So, yes, I won Chester SME Businesswoman of the Year 2013.

Roeseanne Stockton - SME Business Woman of the year 2013 winner

So there I was, in my pretty dress & with a few clients last Thursday at Bolesworth Castle. The names for the FInalists for SME Business of the Year were about to be read out. Hilariously someone on the table whispered ‘Get your best false grin on’…..

And then a mad thing happened. Someone read my name out.

I’d won. I’D WON! Against all expectations.

Wow. Thrilled. Stunned & truly shocked.

However, this blog isn’t about that, it isn’t about how jaw dropped I was, nor how much I honestly believed I didn’t stand a chance, its more about the old adage…..The harder you work. The luckier you get.

I set this business up at the worst WORST possible time. I wasn’t to know. Within weeks the storm clouds were gathering & I guess friends & colleagues must have thought I was mad.

I was (& still am) A Reluctant Entrepreneur. It’s hard going to work rain or shine, but its harder being the Boss, the motivator, the recruiter, the cheer leader, the tea maker…& EVERYTHING.

But what do you do? You forge ahead. You keep doing it.

So day by day, week by week, I recruited. I interviewed. I answered the phone & I got footholds into places & they were WOWED. By this simple little set of actions: I listened, I promised & I delivered. It sounds so easy. Its not – but its certainly not as complex as other Recruiters make it out to be.

So why have I won? Why am I slowly & surely winning?

Y’know what. Plainly put. It’s a combination of knowing your skills & your strengths & weaknesses + the bloody-minded application of hard work. I’m ethically straight. Hugely motivated & I don’t have an Agenda. I want to raise the bar in Recruiting & slowly but surely I’m doing it & people recognise that. Candidates give me more as they see the investment I put into them & clients trust me to deliver.

So. No tricks there. What you see is what you get! But, as I won & I’m hoping to keep winning…..I’m not about to change.

I’m Roseanne Stockton, SME Businesswoman of the Year for Chester & I successfully run Nu-Recruit.

I place permanent & temporary candidates of the very best quality into great local employers & jobs in Liverpool, Chester, Wirral & Manchester. In a no-fuss, no nonsense way.

And I love what I do.

Call me if you think my experience will help you get the best candidate for your job! And please feel free comment on my Blog…..

  2. I’m curious about the criteria used to assess the nominees, which ultimately saw you prevail as the winner.

Contemporary award winning SMEs are recognised for being at the cutting edge of business practice. Yet Nu-Recruit are a predominantly offline recruitment agency, with no discernible digital strategy.

Do you prefer to concentrate on a telesales approach?

  3. Wow i really do love your blog post! its so nice to consider your opinion with this widely controversial subject. Its good to view your brave enough to convey what you look for. I admire that as well as personally thanks for sharing it. I dont comment often but merely thought i’d personally say. thanks
